Another one bites the dust...

If you are a regular in most of our ex Gales pubs, you will have seen that Butser is no more. Instead you will see Seafarer's Ale at 3.6%. Back in the days when Gales was a brewery, this was one of their seasonal beers. Why have Fullers dropped a well-known beer to replace it with another marketed under the same (Gales) name? Click here to send them an e-mail about it or you can e-mail us your thoughts about the decision.
Despite that, please give the beer a try. It's different to Butser, so if that wasn't quite to your taste, you may enjoy a pint of Seafarer's. You will also be helping a good cause, as Fullers are donating £3 for every cask sold to Seafarers UK.

Where have all the pubs gone?

Support your local According to CAMRA, about 20 pubs close every month. In the last month or so there have been a remarkably high number in our area.
In March 2003, the Belle Vue Hotel in Lee on the Solent closed and it is now demolished waiting to be turned into retirement flats. Also closed and demolished at the same time were the Spinnaker Cafe and Cars of Lee, plus the old Police Station. In the recent past, the Camden Arms and the Artillery Arms, Gosport (both keg only) have also closed. In January 2004, the Swordfish at Stubbington closed with 3 acres of land, all sold to a property developer. The Sarisbury (formerly the Keystone) also closed with the same fate. The Sir Robert Peel in Southsea closed on 24 January and will be turned into private accommodation, but this pub was in the wrong place for many (apart from the displaced locals) to worry about it. Also in Gosport, the Dolphin has been sold to a property developer and will close fairly soon. Rumours abound as to which will be the next pub to close. We think that the Cocked Hat is under threat, and there are several pubs in residential areas that are potential targets (the Fighting Cocks, the Park Tavern, the Seahorse and the Old Ship at Lee.

Full pints

Full pints campaign How often have you gone into a pub for a pint and been given a glass that's got an inch of froth in it? You asked for a pint, you paid for a pint so why didn't you get a pint? For the full story, and what you can do about it, visit our national web site at www.camra.org.uk.
Or you could go to another pub that does give you a full pint when you ask for one.
You can also write to your local Trading Standards office. If there are enough complaints, perhaps the industry WILL realise that we aren't happy with the current situation and the Government will keep to its promise to protect you and me from short measure.
And, of course, you can join CAMRA and help us to campaign. To join on-line, visit our national web site.
